Workshop Details
When community organizations focus on advancing their mission, financial responsibilities like bookkeeping and annual filings can sometimes fall to the bottom of the to-do list. Unfortunately, even small oversights can add up and create challenges for compliance, informed decision-making, and the ability to earn the trust of donors and funders.
This introductory workshop will highlight some of the most common financial and compliance mistakes nonprofits make, along with practical steps your organization can take to avoid them.
We’ll begin with the basics of nonprofit due diligence and explore:
Michigan LARA and IRS filings
Key considerations related to UPMIFA
Common bookkeeping red flags
Best practices and techniques that can help your board and staff better understand the organization’s financial position
After this workshop, we hope you leave with a practical strategy for reviewing your organization’s financial health.
No accounting background is required. Whether you’re a nonprofit staff member, board member, treasurer, bookkeeper, or volunteer helping manage an organization’s finances, this session is for you.
Please bring a laptop or notebook if you'd like to take notes or save resources shared during the workshop.
Free to attend, no RSVP required
60-minute workshop, followed by 30 minutes of optional Q&A and networking
Open discussion + peer support
Light refreshments provided
