Keweenaw Community Foundation Awards $74,064 to Spring 2026 Grant Recipients

The Keweenaw Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its Spring 2026 Community Impact Fund and Field of Interest Grants. These grants, totaling $74,064, support various programs and projects that address community needs and opportunities in the Keweenaw. The Spring 2026 grant cycle opened on March 1 and closed on April 10.

Thanks to generous donors of the Community Impact Fund, a flexible fund, KCF is able to respond to the diverse needs and interests of our community as they emerge in real time. While other types of funds are restricted to specific purposes, the Community Impact Fund is uniquely able to accommodate the needs of dynamic projects and organizations that help our community thrive.

This year, the Community Impact Fund supported grants in specific areas of interest—such as accessibility, arts and culture, and community development.

The Spring 2026 Community Impact Fund awardees are as follows:

Accessibility

  • Area 39 Special Olympics Michigan: Program Support

Arts and Culture

  • Copper Country Community Arts Council: Summer Art Camps

  • Kinship of the Keweenaw: Radio Keweenaw

  • Lake Linden Hubbell Music Department: The Breath and Posture Initiative: Equipping Small School Musicians for Success

Community and Belonging

  • Muslim Student Association: MSA Community Outreach & Intercultural Programming Initiative 

Community Development

  • Chassell Township: Chassell Trails Signage Project 

  • Hancock Trails Club: Creekside Trailhead and Bike Park Pavilion and Capstone Trails 

  • Superior Search and Rescue: Cool Down our K9s 

Community Impact 

  • Holy Trinity Lutheran Church: Community Needs Pantry Expansion  

Education

  • Copper Island Academy: Keweenaw Community Book Stops

Environment

  • Copper Country Bird Club: Keweenaw Bird Observatory: Migration, Monitoring, Community Science and Natural Education

  • Main Street Calumet: Keweenaw Wildflower Mural and Teen Community Workshop 

Health and Wellness

  • City of Hancock: HoCo Arena Skate Rentals and Trainer Rentals 

Local Food Systems

  • Holy Trinity Lutheran Church: Community Needs Pantry Expansion 

  • Michigan Tech HuskyFAN (Food Access Network): HuskyFAN Partnership with Local Farmers

The Field of Interest grant program is designed to support specific causes, populations, or geographic areas, reflecting the unique passions and interests of the donors who established and contribute to each fund.

Great Start Early Childhood Fund ($1,600 awarded):

  • Bridging Gaps Childcare: Dining Restoration for Littles

Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund ($13,989 awarded):

  • Area 39 Special Olympics Michigan: Program Support

  • Copper Country Community Arts Council: Summer Art Camps

  • Copper Island Academy: Keweenaw Community Book Stops

  • Hancock Trails Club: Creekside Trailhead and Bike Park Pavilion and Capstone Trails 

  • Kaleidoscope: Keweenaw Alternative Education Organization: Summer Camp Scholarships

  • Unite Mental Health and Wellness: Group Therapy 

CLK Youth Hockey Fund ($1,000 awarded):

  • Village of Laurium: Get Active Initiative
