About the Fund
The Hancock Area District Library Special Project Fund is raising $10,000 to cover the legal and administrative costs of placing the library millage question on the November 2026 ballot, allowing voters in Hancock City, Quincy Township, and Franklin Township to make the final decision.
What the Fund Supports
Getting a question in front of voters requires real costs, from legal filing requirements to public education materials to establishing a new library board. This fund covers that groundwork so the decision can be put to the community as intended.
The fund supports:
Legal expenses to place the millage on the November 2026 ballot
Educational materials that inform residents about the millage—what it is, what it would fund, and what happens if it does not pass
Operating expenses for the new Hancock Area District Library Board
About the Hancock Area District Library
If the millage passes, the Hancock Area District Library (HADL) would be officially formed and continue current service levels as the library transitions from PLDL support to a voter-funded operation.
Current services that would be sustained include:
Staffing the library outside school hours
Purchasing new books and materials
Supporting library programming (summer reading, The Library of Things, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, tokens for the book vending machine)
Maintaining digital service subscriptions (e.g., Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, etc)

Donate to the Special Project Fund
Your donation helps get the library millage question in front of voters this November. This fund does not advocate a yes or no vote—it simply makes the vote possible. Every dollar goes toward the procedural and administrative work required to place the question on the ballot and stand up the new library board.
If the millage does not pass, any remaining funds will be donated to Hancock Public Schools for the explicit purpose of operating the school public library.
