Building Skills, Building Community: Recapping KCF’s Recent Workshops
This fall, the Keweenaw Community Foundation continued its Nonprofit Education and Networking Series with two dynamic learning opportunities: “Making Headlines: Media Skills for Nonprofits,” and “Charitable Gaming for Nonprofits.” Both sessions drew strong participation and left attendees feeling better equipped to support their organizations.

Last month, KCF welcomed Jesse Wiederhold of Visit Keweenaw to lead “Making Headlines: Media Skills for Nonprofits.” Jesse guided participants through the ins and outs of connecting with the media, sharing tips on how to craft effective press releases and tell stories that resonate.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive—attendees called Jesse “engaging,” “a great teacher,” and “the perfect person to facilitate the workshop.” His approachable teaching style and real-world examples helped nonprofit staff and volunteers feel more confident about pitching stories and communicating their missions publicly.
Part two of Jesse’s media train will take place on November 10th, 3:00 - 4:30 pm at the Hancock Community Hub, Sunnyside Community room. The session is free, registration is not required.
Michigan’s Charitable Gaming hosted a training session for local nonprofits.
Charitable Gaming Workshop
This week, nonprofit leaders gathered at the Hancock Community Hub for a session focused on charitable gaming opportunities in Michigan. The workshop provided clarity on the regulations, requirements, and potential benefits of adding charitable gaming as a fundraising tool.
Participants shared that they “loved the session” and found the content especially valuable for exploring new ways to sustain their missions. By the end of the workshop, attendees left with practical insights into licensing, compliance, and strategies for implementing charitable gaming events successfully.
Looking Ahead
KCF is thrilled to see the impact of these sessions and the enthusiasm from local nonprofit leaders. Our goal is to continue offering workshops that strengthen organizations, encourage collaboration, and build capacity across Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
Stay tuned for upcoming sessions in the Nonprofit Education and Networking Series—each designed to equip nonprofits with the tools they need to thrive and better serve our community.
