We're Hiring! Community Engagement Manager

Job Summary
The Community Engagement Manager will strengthen the Keweenaw Community Foundation’s (KCF) mission by building connections, supporting partners, and amplifying community impact. This role manages KCF’s new Community Support Hub, ensuring it is an inclusive, collaborative space for local nonprofits and community members. The Manager also supports the Director of Programs with community partnerships, events, and nonprofit initiatives, and the Director of Development and Communications with marketing and public relations.

This highly collaborative position requires a balance of project management, relationship-building, and hands-on communication skills. The Community Engagement Manager will serve as a connector across the Foundation’s programs, events, and community initiatives—helping to elevate local voices, foster collaboration, and ensure KCF remains a trusted and visible resource for the region. 

This is a three-year, grant-funded position. Continuation beyond the grant term will depend on future funding and organizational needs.

The Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF), based in Hancock, Michigan, has been a permanent charitable resource for Houghton and Keweenaw Counties since 1994. What You’ll Do

Lead the Community Support Hub

  • Collaborate with KCF staff to brainstorm, design, and launch the new Community Support Hub. Help define hub services, resources, and programming.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of KCF’s new Community Support Hub, including coworking/meeting space reservations, setup, and shared resources. 

  • Coordinate nonprofit requests for marketing, event, or grant support.

  • Lead outreach and marketing to promote the Hub’s services.

  • Ensure the Hub remains organized, inclusive, and welcoming. 

  • Provide technical and creative assistance to community partners.

Support Community Programs

  • Strengthen relationships with local nonprofits and partners.

  • Support volunteer coordination, workshops, and events.

  • Help deliver the Nonprofit Education and Networking Series, grant open house, and office hours.

  • Provide communications and design support to partners as capacity allows.

Advance Communications and Marketing

  • Draft and design newsletters, social media posts, and press releases for review.

  • Collect stories, visuals, and data for impact reports and the annual report; draft sections and create supporting graphics.

  • Maintain and update the KCF website and blog, events, and announcements.

  • Design marketing materials for campaigns and events (flyers, social media graphics, invitations, thank-yous).

  • Take photographs at KCF events and capture b-roll images that can be used for future marketing and communications purposes.

  • Monitor and track communications data, including newsletter engagement, social media analytics, website traffic, and media mentions.

Experience and Skills Required

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, community engagement, or nonprofit management.

  • Event planning experience.

  • Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Flexible and responsive to walk-ins and real-time needs.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, social media platforms, and scheduling tools.

  • Experience creating and editing digital/print content.

  • Graphic design skills (Canva required; Adobe Creative Suite a plus).

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present communications data.

  • Comfortable providing basic technology support (e.g., printers, projectors, video conferencing).

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Background in nonprofit communications, community development, or philanthropy/charitable organizations.

  • Familiarity with website management (Squarespace or similar).

  • Photography and photo editing skills.

  • Experience with email marketing tools (MailerLite or similar).

  • Knowledge of the Keweenaw region and its networks.

  • Strong facilitation skills and group problem-solving skills.

Schedule

  • Hours: 30-40 hours per week

  • Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position with flexible work arrangements, including a mix of remote and in-office hours

  • Core Hours: Work is typically conducted during KCF's operational office hours
    (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.), with occasional evening or weekend events as required

  • Location: The position is based in Hancock, Michigan, with in-office work required to support collaboration and community engagement
