Essential Education Symposium Highlights Community-Campus Collaboration

On April 30, Michigan Tech University hosted its Essential Education Symposium, bringing together staff, faculty, and community partners to explore new opportunities for community-based experiential learning through the university’s Essential Education program.

The Keweenaw Community Foundation has been proud to partner with Michigan Tech in developing Essential Education Experiences (E3) by connecting the university and local organizations. In January, KCF and MTU co-hosted a series of sector-specific focus groups with nonprofits, municipal leaders, and community advocates to identify student involvement opportunities and explore how the university can better support meaningful, streamlined partnerships.

The symposium reinforced a shared commitment to place-based learning, ensuring student projects are grounded in community needs and create lasting impact across the Keweenaw.
