Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund
Strengthening the Leadership and Charitable Commitment of Youth in our Community
The goals of the Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund is to engage youth in philanthropy, address the needs of local youth, and perform effective community service.
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is part of the Keweenaw Community Foundation. Its mission is to address youth needs in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. In 1992, the trustees of the Community Foundation for Keweenaw and Houghton Counties created the Youth Advisory Council in response to a challenge issued by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The Kellogg Foundation contributed $500,000 to the Keweenaw Community Foundation to create an endowment to be managed for and by youth in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. YAC was established to identify needs, solicit grant proposals, and make funding recommendations to the Foundation’s Board of Advisors. Thousands of dollars have been granted to local youth projects from the interest generated from the Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund.
